Peanut butter fruit is a small tree that produces fruits that genuinely taste a little bit like peanut butter. They are pasty and sweet with pulp surrounding a seed. Some people find the texture and taste bizarre while others really appreciate this unusual fruit. The tree bears within a year or two from seed if it is growing happily. Trees can have somewhat of an everbearing habit with some fruit occurring at different times of year. The tree is not ultra cold tolerant but will not be killed by light frosts or freeze events. Trees are known to perform well as far North as the Orlando area. Being a small tree/shrub, they can easily be placed up against structures where they will be protected from freezes. They bear so quickly that they can be worth replanting every few years, even if lost to cold. A fun “nibble” fruit to have in the yard enjoyed by children and adults alike.
